Lupi olive oil is generally OK, if at times a touch oxidised from long storage. Most kiwis aren't all that wise to the difference until they start tasting some of our local produce, but that can get expensive indeed.

Sunflower Oil tends to be at the less expensive end and is less likely to be diluted. I do a good deal of my shopping in Lim Chhouw's in Henderson, or Moshim's, or Bulk Barn or Bin Inn, and these "discount" sources can be a problem, and even more so when the list of ingredients on the back panel is in Chinese. Mind you, it is an occasional thrill to buy an item whose label is entirely in Chinese and then work out what it's likely to be.

(Why do I shop in these places? Because they have an extensive range of foods and food items — pulses especially — that are just not available in your average supermarket, and well worth including in your diet. On the whole, economical, too.)

I just checked my Lupi Olive Oil (3 litres) and that seems fine Dave. Tin Can.
I also checked my SunFlower Oil (4 litres) and that seems fine from Goodman Fielders.

I have an account with Gilmours from my CP days and that is where I get my bulk supplies.

Tatiana can be a bit heavy handed with the oils as all Russian's seem to be when cooking.

I've thoroughly enjoyed your walk along the Pipeline, thank you for sharing it with us. We walk along it at least once a week and often wonder why it's not advertised in any way, it is a wonderful walk. One day we went down the steps on the left side (going towards Huia Rd) and right at the bottom found the 'bridge to nowhere', very steep and extremely hard to fight your way back up the hill afterwards if you're as unfit as I was that day!
Cheers.....Dawn

Hello Lyn. Yes, surely you can use them. If you are interested in a bigger resource, this is just the blog section.

Go to http://wudhi.com/mrwalker/wfr/index.htm, an earlier report on the walk, or http://wudhi.com/mrwalker/wfr/woodhill%20diary.htm.

I was around, not involved, at the time they were filming, and I was really impressed going back in there a month or two later and finding how well they had covered their tracks.

Cheers

Hi there - I write short articles for an online magazine. I'm presently working on something about Narnia locations in NZ and wondered whether I could please have permission to use two or three of your photographs of Woodhill. I would of course credit you, provide a link to your site and email a link to you for the finished story. Here is the adress to my writing page http://www.suite101.com/profile.cfm/rassmussen in case you'd like to read some of my work before granting permission (or not!). Many thanks and kind regards

Hello, Tom.

Yes, definitely you can do it with goats' milk. Your main problem anywhere is finding the grains. If you're happy with the commercial version, and it's very palatable as far as I am concerned, and somewhat simpler than using the grains, try googling chr-hansen, xpl-1, usa and see who is distributing this stuff in the USA. If you want the multi-organism "real thing" you might try ebay or http://www.torontoadvisors.com/Kefir/kefir-list.php to see who is available to supply the goods locally. Cheers

dave, i know, long time, but have been very busy with the garden, and farm and such, but just got this idea to see what "Dave" was doing. Can you do this with goat's milk? i have lamacha's and nubians, and mostly use the milk for drinking, cereal, to pour of icecream, haven't tried goat milk ice cream, but have heard of yoghurt. any thoughts?

Hi Dave,
That's the list I meant. Sometimes people don't respond because they may not have the grains available, but I know that many people will ship the grains long distance without a problem. I shipped mine in some remote places, in winter or summer and it always worked well. Not a single time grains were affected. Once you have the extra grains, please post it on the list :)

Thanks,
Adnan

Thank you. I found a list a while back: http://www.torontoadvisors.com/Kefir/kefir-list.php and emailed a couple of the people listed, but received no reply. Is this the list you meant. I am happy to make available as available the commercial preparation in live form, but as yet I have relatively few of the grains to share
