The Core Teachings

from Chapter 10: The Contemplative Life

Meditation on Life By Grace

Our students dare not forget for a single day that whatever transpires in their experience comes as an activity of their own consciousness, and therefore it is essential that there be a constant reminder of God as the one and only Power, the conviction that power is not in person or effect, but only in the invisible consciousness of the individual.

By a neglect of these principles, we unknowingly accept the problems of human existence.

On the other hand, by a constant remembrance that God is the only power, and that there is no power in effect, we dispel the illusory belief in two powers and its activity.

In order to build a consciousness of truth, all Infinite Way students should know the following passages as well as they know their own names:

  1. "The New Horizon," The Infinite Way
  2. "God is One", Living the Infinite Way
  3. "Protection", The 1955 Infinite Way Letters
  4. "Break the Fetters that Bind You", The 1958 Infinite Way Letters
  5. "Contemplation Develops the Beholder", The Contemplative Life
  6. "Introduction", Practising the Presence
  7. "Love Thy Neighbour" Practising the Presence
  8. "The Relationship of Oneness", The Art of Spiritual Healing

The following passage is an epigraph for all of Joel's published books.

Illumination dissolves all material ties and binds men together with the golden chains of spiritual understanding;
it acknowledges only the leadership of the Christ; it has no ritual or rule but the divine, impersonal, universal Love; no other worship than the inner Flame that is ever lit at the shrine of the Spirit. This union is the free state of spiritual brotherhood. the only restraint is the discipline of the Soul, therefore we know liberty without licence; we are a united universe without physical limits; a divine service to God without ceremony or creed. The illumined walk without fear.
